Mar 08, 2010 - male binge eater

Hi there. My doctor suggested to me that I had an eating disorder and that he could refer me to a specialist. Then being a typical 'guy' I said I would be fine and would deal with it myself. As soon as I got home I felt really shakey and spent the whole evening eating just about everything I could. I feel really stupid now coz I worry that Ive blown my chance of getting some real help. Ive always thought women get eating disorders, not men! Are there any men out there who binge eat like me? What do you think my doc would say if I went back to him to ask for help having said 'no' before? I feel like such an idiot (at least no one knows me here!!)
Thanks for any answers!

Tim

Hi There - yes, men do get eating disorders too! and professionals are finding this more and more. Whether thats because more men are actually getting EDs nowadays, or that its being picked up more is debatable. But, - please go back to see you doctor again. Im sure they will recognise that you just needed some time to think about this, and they will be pleased that you have made a positive decision to help yourself get better!

So you are certainly not alone, and post back to let us know how you are getting on.
